Gallium nitride chargers have improved gradually since they came out earlier this year— we started with 30W and 45W chargers, then small 61W boxes, then a 60W charger with two USB-C ports, and in September there was a new 65W charger with two USB-C ports and a USB-A ports. But now we might have a new wall charging king, as Hyper launched a HyperJuice 100W GaN charger on kickstarter— which provides the maximum amount of power that USB-C can deliver under the current standard, in a package about the size of a card deck.
Here it is, showing a large total of two USB-C ports and two USB-A ports: it also has built-in prongs on the back that you flip out to plug it into an outlet.
But be careful to plug it into a wall — the charger sticks out far enough that it looks pretty easy to run into and accidentally knock out: The charger can push a full 100 watts of power — which could potentially allow you to simultaneously power a powerful 15-inch MacBook Pro and an iPhone 11 Pro, or a 13-inch Pro and a MacBook Air — because it uses gallium nitride (GaN).
If this really seems like your ideal wall charger, go for it, it works great— the company has a proven track record when it comes to crowdfunding, having used Kickstarter successfully in the past for marketing and pre-ordering. Several Kickstarted products include the Sanho HyperCube, which helps you to connect a USB and microSD drive to your phone charger, and the HyperJuice USB-C battery pack, which was the first to support the 100W USB-C Power Delivery 3.0 standard.
Hyper says the HyperJuice 100W GaN wall charger has started shipping to early backers of birds in January 2020 and to other backers of Kickstarter in February 2020. If you're back on Kickstarter now, you'll get it a little cheaper than its projected $99 retail price — but how cheap it depends on which tier you're paying, and how quickly you're purchasing it.
